One thing that makes every person unique is that we all have our own individual voice. When it comes to instructing yoga, this is especially important as different voices make for diverse experiences in the yoga world. Aside from yoga, the importance of having an authentic voice can apply to other things like being a writer or an entrepreneur.
Your own voice plays a large role in making you stand out and establishing your sole message or purpose that you are trying to get across to others. Living in a world where there are so many social constructs and conformities to follow, staying true to yourself is not the easiest thing to do. Here are some ways to help you develop a voice that is authentic to who you are:
Take some time for yourself
An important step in finding your authentic voice is to take some time for yourself. Break away from social media or anything that floods your attention with things that other people are doing. Spend some more time doing things that you like to do! Read more, observe more, meditate more. Doing these things will help you develop a solid understanding of what makes you happy and in turn, you can reflect these appreciations when expressing your own voice through teaching, writing or working.
Listen to your gut
Our bodies are so great at communicating feelings to us as a way to protect us from danger or to convince us to make certain decisions. Next time your gut is sending you a message, listen closely to it rather than shutting it down. What works for some people may not work for you so instead of rejecting your instinct by following a way of doing things like most people, take what your gut is telling you and let that guide you in making your next decision!
Embrace your vulnerabilities
This might be the most difficult tip for some people as letting our vulnerability shine through while expressing yourself can be scary. However, embracing our vulnerabilities allows you to do something that most people don’t. It allows you to become more relatable to others and can possibly help someone else.
Finding your authentic voice is an important starting point before you take the next step to guide others, but first you must take some time to really communicate with yourself to make the experience between you and those who are listening to you, special.
