Social media has truly evolved into a wonderful thing over the years. People have developed their own businesses through certain social media platforms, and connecting with your family, friends, colleagues, even your favorite public figures, has never been easier.
I personally love social media because I am able to showcase a lot of what I have learned over the years through my yoga practice and life experiences with my followers. At the same time, I am able to connect and interact with people from different parts of the world every single day.
There is no denying that social media has a special place in my heart because without it, I wouldn’t have the beautiful, unique relationship that I have with you now, but, I want you to step back for a moment and think about the following:
♥ How many times did you check social media yesterday from the moment you woke up to the time you went to bed?
♥ When was the last time you went without checking social media for an entire day?
♥ Have you ever found yourself comparing your life to the life of someone else based on what you see on social media?
The truth is, we’ve all been guilty of the above. Nowadays, it is so difficult to look around and not see someone else staring at a screen whether you are at dinner, on public transportation, in line for coffee, etc.
I’m sharing this all with you because I want to stress the importance of taking a break from social media every now and then.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with social media itself, however, when people start to lose the art of having real, face-to-face conversations or develop a lack of being or feeling present is where I feel the true problem lies.
As hard as it is to admit, social media can really take away from enjoying the beauty of your day that sometimes it is best to just put it aside.
True connection is something that cannot be found through social media. A true connection does not just apply to another person; it can be with your surroundings as well. It is something that can happen when you are willing to remove boundaries like social media and just enjoy whatever life is actually revealing to you.
Whether you feel you are using it too much or not, challenge yourself to a day without social media and maybe even progress to going an entire weekend without it!
Use your social media detox as a way to take back your mind from being controlled by its contents and to just feel liberated.
Social media is wonderful and I am not by any means saying that you should quit. I am a strong believer that you can still reap its benefits without it taking away from your own joy and happiness.
Are you up for the challenge?
